HRV biofeedback training with HeartMath®.

See, in real time, how stress affects your heart rhythm, and learn to shift it on purpose. HRV biofeedback is included in all of my coaching programs.

Diedra Perry leading an HRV biofeedback session with HeartMath heart rhythm data on screen

HRV biofeedback training teaches you to change your heart rhythm pattern, and with it your stress response, using a sensor that displays your heart rate variability live. With practice, you learn to reach heart coherence, a calm and focused state, in minutes and without the screen.

As a coach and Certified HeartMath® Mentor, I use HeartMath technology to give you real-time insight into how stress affects your body and mind. Instead of guessing whether a technique is working, you can watch your heart rhythm smooth out as you practice. That feedback makes new habits stick faster.

What you’ll learn

  • How the heart and brain work together to create coherence in your nervous system
  • Heart-focused breathing and other HeartMath® techniques, with real-time feedback on how your body responds
  • How to use heart rate variability to see how well your body is recovering from sleep and the previous day’s mental and physical activity
  • How stressful situations affect your body, and what you can do about it

In-person consultations in Las Vegas can include a live HRV biofeedback demonstration.

The technology

HeartMath® technology measures heart rate variability through an ear or finger sensor and shows your coherence level on a phone, tablet, or computer. Technology is not included in coaching and must be purchased separately. Investments start at about $150.

What the research says

HeartMath reports that in a study of nearly 1,400 people at six global companies, results measured six months after HeartMath training included a 60% reduction in anxiety, a 45% reduction in exhaustion, and a 24% improvement in the ability to focus. Individual results vary, and coaching is not a medical treatment.

HRV biofeedback FAQ

What is HRV biofeedback?

Heart rate variability (HRV) is the natural variation in time between heartbeats. HRV biofeedback uses a sensor, usually on your earlobe or finger, to show that rhythm on a screen in real time. As you practice techniques like heart-focused breathing, you can watch your heart rhythm become smoother and more ordered, a state HeartMath® calls coherence.

What is heart coherence?

Heart coherence is a measurable state in which your heart rhythm becomes smooth, balanced, and wave-like. It reflects greater synchronization between the heart, brain, and nervous system, and it is associated with feeling calm, focused, and emotionally balanced. You can learn to shift into coherence on purpose.

Is HeartMath considered biofeedback?

Yes. The HeartMath® emWave® stress relief system is a form of biofeedback that focuses on heart rate variability and coherence. The goal is to teach you how to bring your brain, mind, body, and emotions into balanced alignment.

Is HeartMath meditation?

No. HeartMath techniques benefit the body, mind, and emotions, but they are not a form of meditation. They can enhance a meditation practice by improving focus, emotional management, and self-awareness.

Do I need to buy HRV technology?

It is not required, but it is highly recommended so you can measure heart rate variability in real time between sessions. HeartMath technology starts at about $150 and is purchased separately at heartmath.com.
